Top destinations for family holidays

1. The Algarve, Portugal
This is a great place to relax in the sunshine, but if your children need something more exciting than the beach, then Aqualand is close by. It has a 23 metre slide, and is one of the biggest attractions of it’s kind in Europe.

2. Menorca, Spain
This is well known for being great for families, and is less likely to be packed with people seeking all night parties, like Ibiza is. Menorca has wonderful beaches such as Binibeca Nou, and Cala Macarelleta. Depending on the age, and energy levels of your children then there is the option of finding your own secluded beach by kayak.

3. Barcelona, Spain
Barcelona offers a range of things that will interest children. Gaudi’s buildings, with their unusual architectural styles will catch their attention, as they are walking around. When they get tired from walking around, then Parc de Ciutadella is popular for family picnics, although it does also have a zoo at the centre.

4. Brittany, France
Brittany is popular with those families that don’t like to be too hot, but still enjoy good weather. Saint Malo and La Baule are two of the many children friendly coastal resorts. Dinard is one resort which has it’s own airport. If your children play video games then they might like to visit Mont Saint Michel, for it’s connection to Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood. The World Heritage site was used as one of the locations in the game.

5. Edinburgh, Scotland
Summer is the most exciting time to go to Edinburgh, as it is when the Fringe takes place. The Fringe Festival offers hundreds of different shows, and there are a lot aimed specifically at children. If your children want to experience being a stand up for themselves then Comedy Club 4 is the place to take them. Depending on the age and sensitivity of your children, then there is the Edinburgh Dungeon as well.

6. Disneyland Paris, France
Paris is a hour away from the park, if your children, however unlikely as it might be, get tired of all that Disneyland Paris has to offer them.

7. Europa Park, Germany
Germany offers it’s own family friendly theme park, similar to Euro Disney in Baden-Baden. It offers the chance to ride rollercoasters in recreations of various European cities. You can take a London taxi cab, a Venice gondola ride, or for those who need a bigger adrenaline rush then there is the Blue Fire (100 km/h in 2.5 seconds) and the Silver Star which is 73 metres tall.

8. Corfu, Greece
Corfu’s hugely popular, but the east coast is slightly quieter. The village of Kalami is one of the most popular destinations for those seeking a peaceful family holiday, as the bay is relatively private. If your children prefer to have activities to do while on holiday, then Avlaki beach offers horse riding and windsurfing lessons.

9. Lopud, Croatia
Lopud has no cars at all on it’s shores, which is one of the reasons that it’s so popular for families, particularly those with small children. If you tire of sunbathing on Sunj bay or the other beautiful beaches on the island, then Dubrovnik is close by, accessible by ferry. Game of Thrones has boosted tourism in Dubrovnik, making this historical city appeal to a whole new generation, and the city boasts a walking tour to show off the different filming locations.
